High expectations of a New Year revival were dashed on Saturday evening when Perth handed Newcastle a 1 nil defeat at home.
The patchy form and inconsistency that has dogged the Novacastrians for the first half on the season looks set to continue in 2014.
This Saturday night the Jets are at home again, this time to Melbourne Victory, a side also fighting to find consistency. The two teams only met last month and on that occasion Newcastle took the points with a 2-1 win at AAMI Park.
Now at the halfway point of the competition itís time for these two sides to stand up if they want be known as definite contenders for the title.
Melbourne Victory are currently sitting in 4th position just 1 point ahead of Newcastle in 6th.
Although there is still 14 games to be played in the season, a win this weekend may be enough to kick start their season. On the other hand, another loss at home could be enough for the Hunter Stadium faithful to call for the head of coach Gary Van Egmond.
So what needs to be done? How can the Jets consistency of being inconsistent be turned around? Or are we just expecting too much from our younger players? Let me know your thoughts on the jets form and what you think needs to be done to get them back on the correct flight path.
